This award, named for M. D. “Mickie” Birdsall, is given by Duke Energy in support of economic developers or stakeholders seeking a fundamental understanding of the critical components of a comprehensive economic development strategy. Presented annually by the University of South Florida’s Small Business Development Center, the IEDC Basic Course is held in November of each year at USF in Tampa, FL. To promote economic development education through scholarships to attend the Annual IEDC Basic Economic Development Course offered each Fall by the University of South Florida Small Business Development Center in Tampa, FL.
The Birdsall Scholarship will be in the amount of the course registration fee only and will be disbursed to USF directly upon completion of the course. All other expenses attached to attendance at the conference (i.e. hotel, rental car, airline flight, etc.) are the responsibility of the scholarship winner. In the event the course is not completed, the recipient will be held responsible for paying USF the full value of the scholarship.
*The scholarships are given in honor of M.D. “Mickie” Birdsall. Mickie served the Florida Economic Development Council, Inc. in every major role, including President in 1978. She also represented Florida on the Southern Industrial Development Council’s Board of Directors in 1978-1980.
